Screen printing can be used to create unique treatments on the surface of pottery. The process is fairly simple if you are familiar with the traditional photo-emulsion technique for creating screen printed imagery. If not, a good primer on this process can be found here. After you have created your screen you can use ceramic glaze (Cone 6 shown here) just as you would use ink, with one intermediate step. The key to screen printing with glaze is to print onto foam and transfer this printed image onto your ceramic object. The foam can be used like a stamp, or the ceramic form may be rolled onto the foam for transferring prints onto round objects such as vases.
