Anchoring Health
Data visualizations of new research on for-profit hospitals
Task
Create simple visualizations from complex datasets
This project required the analysis and visualization of large data sets related to the location and characteristics of for-profit hospitals. The map below shows where for-profit hospitals are concentrated in the United States. Counties are shaded darker as a higher proportion of hospital beds in the county are located within for-profit hospitals. For-profit hospitals may serve as anchor institutions within their communities, and this map shows where these anchor activities would likely have the most impact.
Interactive elements were utilized to provide the user with more specific information about each visualization. The two examples from the project below show details relating to for-profit hospital employment as well as socioeconomic characteristics of the populations that these hospitals serve.
Looking forward to solving more design problems through in-depth research, iteration, and user centered approaches.
