Challenge

Environmental Design

This interactive environmental design project incorporates several different creative technologies including the processing programming language, its implementation of the opencv library, and sonic range detection with the arduino microcontroller. The project was completed in collaboration with professor Bradley Lewter at Florida Atlantic University, and has been exhibited as a site specific installation exhibition in Lake Worth, FL, as well as at the Cedar Arts Center, Corning, NY.

Approaches

Creative Coding and Physical Computing

This project utilizes creative coding and physical computing by using sonic range detection to find where the viewer is in relationship to the screen. The image and sound change based on this distance. This work is intended to reference and approximate the way Alexandre Alexeieff and Claire Parker worked with a large physical pinboard to create animation. Digital cameras are used to capture imagery from the environment and viewers can “draw” with this imagery by moving around the space.

This version features two mirrored screens installed as a site specific installation.

This work can be projected or displayed on multiple screens
